Remedial and Sports Massage  what is it and how can it help?

What is Remedial and Sports Therapy?

The Society of Sports Therapists (SST) state that "Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability. It utilises the principles of sport and exercise science incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and, where applicable, work."

Sports therapists treat pain and injury through hands-on treatment and rehabilitation, and are experts in musculoskeletal disorders. Their intensive training focuses mainly on the musculoskeletal system and relieving pain and increasing quality of life through restoring, maintaining and maximising movement.

You don’t have to be a sportsperson, or have a sports-related injury to receive a treatment. In life, many situations arise which can lead to bone and muscle injuries.

Our therapist can provide not only physical rehabilitation, but also rehabilitation advice and exercises, which can also help strengthen the body against any further injuries before they occur (and are therefore preventative). Advice and exercises can be brought together to form a kind of daily exercise programme, that can be simple and adaptable for your specific needs. Depending on your requirements, these programmes can be as simple as walking for 20 minutes twice a day, or going to the gym with a weekly gym programme.

Our therapist uses a variety of techniques to relieve painful muscles or injuries, in order to help you recover as quickly as possible. Treatments include deep soft tissue massage, taping, resistance bands and ultrasound, but our coach is very flexible towards your needs.

Deep soft tissue massage allows for tense and inflamed muscles to relax and pain to disappear, whilst coupling with ultra-sound protocols for even faster muscle repair and recovery.

If you’re in discomfort, you may have tried painkillers, rest, or even used a bag of frozen peas to alleviate your pain, but these only provide a temporary fix. What you really need is to have your problem diagnosed, get to the heart of the issue, and receive advice and treatment from someone who can help.
