About Richard

My name is Richard Haydon, and I’m a qualified sports therapist and founder of RH Sports Therapist. I am a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists as well as a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

In my past I played football for Bude Town Football Club, as well as Kilkhampton Football Club. When I stopped playing, I became a manager for Bude, Kilkhampton, Holsworthy, and Launceston 2nds. Whilst I was at Launceston, I took up the pitch-side first aid, as I already had 28 years of first aid experience through work.

Treating injuries pitch-side led me to a sports therapy diploma, which in turn led to me gaining a degree in Rehabilitation in Sport and Exercise at the University of St Mark and St John in Plymouth.

Whilst studying I was able to participate in various events including the Plymouth half marathon and Back Clinic (run by the university, giving a 6 week program to clients that have been referred with back issues). I have also helped out at the National swimming championship trials at the Life Centre in Plymouth.

I am involved with the English Schools Football Association as Physio for their Area and Regional trials. I have also provided voluntary work for Plymouth Argyle Football Club, under the tutelage of the Head Physiotherapist, as well as working alongside the Academy and youth teams. I am currently the head therapist at Saltash United Football Club, providing not only injury recovery, but injury prevention protocols as well as nutritional programmes.

As well as sports massage, ultrasound and taping for injuries, I also provide rehabilitation advice and exercises. Alongside my training in Sports Therapy, I possess a level 2 gym instructors certificate (accredited by the Register of Exercise Professionals — REPs); and thus am able to put together effective programs for both rehabilitation, and prevention, of injuries.

I know how frustrating a painful muscle injury can be. I’ve spent many years involved in football, not just playing, but also treating players, so I know how quickly you want to resume your active life. Why wait a single day longer than is necessary being in pain, unable to take part in your favourite activities or function in your daily life?

The quicker you take action, the quicker you can be pain-free.
