HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy what is it and how can it help?

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis, a natural deep state of relaxation to treat conditions and change habits. This enjoyable, trance-like state is similar to being completely absorbed in a book, movie, music, or when you are daydreaming or in the zone. In this state, you can turn your attention completely inward, to find and utilise the natural resources deep within yourself. These resources can help you make changes, or regain control of certain areas of your life.

Unfortunately, Hypnotherapy is often confused with stage hypnosis, or the idea of mind control. In stage hypnosis, people are often made to do silly things and generally make a fool of themselves, often to the great amusement of those watching. Often in films and television programs, people are made to do things against their will.

Hypnotherapy is not like this!

No one can hypnotise you and make you do things you don't want to!

Hypnosis describes a natural, normal, relaxed state, which we go in and out of every day. The truth is, that you can allow yourself to relax and go into a hypnotic state, but no one can do it to you.

When we are in a hypnotic state, our mind is very receptive to new ideas and suggestions. This is great for therapeutic purposes and making changes to how we think and feel. People sometimes worry that they will be out of control and susceptible in the hypnotic state, but this is not so. Our subconscious mind is always aware and will simply snap out of the hypnotic state, if any suggestion does not fit with our moral code and personal ethics.

How Hypnotherapy works

Your hypnotherapist will talk with you about the goals and changes that you want to achieve. You can then contribute the sort of ideas and suggestions that you want to be placed into your mind. For example, if you want to feel more confident, your hypnotherapist might say “with each new day, you awaken feeling confident and ready for the day ahead."

When the direction of therapy is decided, your hypnotherapist will lead you into a deeply relaxed state. The agreed suggestions and ideas are imprinted into the mind, and you are then led back to a full waking and aware state. You are fully in control when under hypnosis, and don't have to take on the therapist's suggestions if you don't want to.
